The Life of St. Perpetua
Vibia Perpetua was a twenty-two-year-old noblewoman of Carthage and the mother of a nursing baby when she was arrested as a catechumen. Her slave Felicity, who was expecting a child, was arrested with her.
In prison Perpetua kept a diary of her visions and her love for her family, and it is one of the earliest writings by a Christian woman. The two women died together for Christ, and their names are prayed in the Roman Canon of the Mass.
