The Life of St. Aloysius Gonzaga
Aloysius was the eldest son of a powerful Italian family, raised in royal courts and expected to inherit his father's title. He chose God instead, handed his inheritance to his brother and entered the Jesuits in Rome at seventeen.
When plague struck Rome in 1591 he carried the sick to the hospital in his own arms and nursed them. He fell ill himself and died at twenty-three, guided to the end by his spiritual father, St. Robert Bellarmine.
