Stephen was one of the seven deacons chosen by the apostles to serve the early Church in Jerusalem. Acts describes him as full of grace and power and of the Holy Spirit.

When he preached about Jesus, his face shone like an angel's. He saw the heavens open and Jesus at the right hand of God, and as he died he prayed for those who stoned him.
