The Life of St. Monica

Monica was a Christian woman of Thagaste whose married life asked great patience of her. Her gentleness won over her husband Patricius, who was baptized before he died, and she never stopped praying for her brilliant, restless son Augustine.

For years she followed him from Africa to Italy, weeping and praying. In Milan she saw him baptized by St. Ambrose at Easter in 387, and she died peacefully soon after at Ostia. Her story has given hope to every parent who prays for a child.

“Nothing is far from God.”
St. Monica, in the Confessions of St. Augustine
