The Life of St. Louis IX

Louis became King of France as a boy and grew into a ruler known for fairness and prayer. He sat under an oak tree at Vincennes to hear anyone's complaint in person, fed the poor at his own table and served them himself.

He built the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, its walls almost entirely stained glass, to house the Crown of Thorns. He once hosted St. Thomas Aquinas at dinner. The city of St. Louis, Missouri, is named for him.
