The Life of St. Leo the Great

Leo served the Church as a deacon in Rome and became pope in 440. He guided the Church through great danger, and his clear teaching helped the Council of Chalcedon proclaim that Christ is one Person in two natures, truly God and truly man.

His sermons for Christmas and Easter are still read in the Liturgy of the Hours. He is one of only a few popes called the Great, and he is a Doctor of the Church.
