Dominic was a bright, friendly boy from a poor family in Piedmont. On the day of his First Communion at age seven he wrote his resolutions, ending with the words "Death rather than sin," and he kept them with all his heart.
At twelve he joined St. John Bosco's Oratory in Turin, where he became known for his joy, his kindness to other boys and his love of prayer. He died at fourteen, and Don Bosco wrote his life to inspire young people everywhere.
