The Life of St. Charles Borromeo
Charles came from a noble family and was made a cardinal at twenty-two by his uncle, Pope Pius IV. He helped bring the Council of Trent to completion and then went home to serve as Archbishop of Milan.
He opened seminaries, schools and Sunday catechism classes for children, and he visited every corner of his diocese. When plague struck Milan in 1576 he stayed, fed thousands, cared for the sick and led his people in prayer.
