The Life of St. Bonaventure
Giovanni di Fidanza entered the Franciscans as a young man and became a master of theology at the University of Paris, where his friend St. Thomas Aquinas also taught. In 1257 he was elected to lead the whole Franciscan order.
He wrote the official life of St. Francis and the beautiful Journey of the Mind into God. Pope Gregory X made him a cardinal, and the Church honors him as a Doctor, the Seraphic Doctor.
