The Life of St. Benedict Joseph Labre

Benedict Joseph was the eldest of fifteen children in a French farming family. He tried several monasteries and came to understand that God was calling him to a pilgrim's life of prayer.

He walked thousands of miles to shrines such as Loreto, Assisi and Santiago de Compostela, and he spent his last years in Rome praying for hours before the Blessed Sacrament. When he died, children ran through the streets crying, "The saint is dead!"
