The Life of St. Anthony of Egypt
Anthony was a young Egyptian who heard the Gospel words "Go, sell what you have and give to the poor" read in church. He did exactly that and went into the desert to live in prayer.
Many came to learn from him, and the monastic life grew around him. St. Athanasius wrote his life, which inspired Christians for centuries.
